Home Made Microdermabrasion Kit

25 03 2010

I’m a selfish bitch and I really don’t want to share this little secret πŸ˜› just kidding

I was looking for a cheap way to have microdermabrasion at home. Was very happy to find out that my favorite YouTube make-up teacher, Michelle Phan, created a video about having a homemade clear skin treatment. It’s perfect because my “electric” toothbrush was just lying around. I am so tired of the battery going out while I’m in the middle of brushing my teeth. Now, I finally found another use for it πŸ™‚

P.S. Please, do not ever think that I didn’t change the brush heads πŸ˜›

Great Kikay Finds

8 03 2010

My kikay cabinet is super loaded and in chaos at the moment. I have this bad habit of hoarding stuff that excites me when I’m in a kikay store and it only hits me that I’ve had enough when I realize that something is near expiry and I haven’t used it since the time I bought it. There are, however, finds that will not just be part of my kikay display but will actually be used over and over again.

I’d like to show you what I like the most among my stuff. This is not to say that they’re the best out there but based from my experience, these beauty products have satisfied me better than the others. This is also not a paid advertisement. That’s just impossible and improbable for now πŸ™‚

Going from down right to the left then up:

Glutamax Whitening Deodorant.

Please do not take this as an admission that my underarms are pitch-black in color. But let’s face it, all the shaving and waxing and application of chemicals in the underarms are proven to cause them to darken. I am fair-skinned… in fact, a little fairer than most. It’s hard to keep everything in the same shade (I’m just lucky that my knees and elbows are not dark) πŸ˜› More than that, I have sensitive skin and I react fast, and mostly not well, to products that are not of good quality. While I have the option to undergo the more expensive office procedure of underarm whitening, I intentionally do not want to take that choice. It’s expensive and I’m afraid of artificial enhancements. I was skeptical at first about Glutamax because I tried some products before andΒ  instead of getting whiter, my underarms got darker! But Glutamax is different. I got it mid-January this year. Believe me, I saw the results by mid-February. The instructions say that you have to use it twice a day for faster results but I only use it once, during night time. If you’re not allergic to it, try Glutamax πŸ™‚

Avalon Organics Lotion (Lavender Scent)

This is part of a set from Healthy Options and was given to me last Christmas. I used it on the least hydrated parts of my body, i.e, elbows, knees, butt cheeks, etc. πŸ˜› (haha too much info here!!!) It doesn’t smell good but it has a very good effect and does its moisturizing job well.

Face Shop Hand Lotion (Apple)

I also got this as a Christmas gift and it came along with another variant, lemon. It’s very cute because the container is shaped like an apple (and the lemon variant container is shaped like a lemon!) πŸ˜€ It’s just the right size and I’m able to bring it anywhere. The smell is also nice and it’s a great way to moisturize our often-abused hands.

Burt’s Bees Nail Cream (on top of the apple)

I don’t usually grow long nails. I like it short and trimmed because it makes me grip on my ballpen better and it doesn’t create that annoying tip-tap sound when I type on my keyboard πŸ˜› There are times though that I want to grow it long (kikay call) and I feel that Vitamin E is just not enough to make the nails strong. I use Burt’s Bees Nail Cream to keep my nails strong and shiny. It has a very delicate citrus scent and is easy to apply. Plus, it’s very handy too.

Garnier Light Brightening Eye Roll-on

I have heavy eye bags. This one promises to lighten up the dark spots around the eye area. To be honest, I don’t see the results. At least, not immediately. But I use it because the roll-on has a very soothing effect in the eye area. You don’t frequently get a massage around the eye area, right? This satisfies that. When the roll-on glides through your skin around the eyes, you instantly feel the coolness and that is very relaxing.

Victoria’s Secret Hydrating Body Lotion (Delicate Petals)

This is my flavor of the month when it comes to body lotion. It’s not sticky and smells really really good. You can forget about wearing perfume after applying it πŸ˜›

Johnson’s Baby Bedtime Oil (Lavender)

I love love love this baby oil!!! I’ll show you one of these days how to use it as part of a facial cleansing routine but for now, let me just say that this oil has a very relaxing scent that you’d like to smell right before you close your eyes to sleep. While others use peppermint for their whole body massage, this oil is my kind of thing. It smells so clean and pure and simple. It’s the perfect companion to de-stress at night πŸ˜€

There you have it, my great kikay finds. What about yours? πŸ™‚

PureDerm Vitalizing Pack

4 02 2010

I saw this ad in one of the shelves over at Watson’s. It says “the secret of Korean skin” or something to that effect. To me, Koreans have the best looking skin so when I saw that, I literally had to back out from the line I was in and headed to the shelf to find out what this secret is all about. I saw these cute little packs on the shelf which include some masks for the face, cucumber slices for the eyes, and this wash-off type mask.

They’re sold at only P29+ per pack or P59+ for every three of the same kind. Since I’m always the type who reinvents the wheel when it comes to “some” rules, I didn’t get three of the same kind. The cashier charged me each piece individually. So, I complained about not getting them for P59+ and told them there’s no logic in that because after all they’re priced similarly. LOL. Of course, I was just pissing her off. For a P1 difference in total cost, why the hell would I care?!

Anyhow, here’s my review of the packs.

As between the Vitalizing Green Tea Pack and the Grape Yogurt Pack, I liked the scent of the Grape Yogurt Pack more πŸ™‚ It’s sweet and fruity and it makes me wanna rub it on my skin forever. But when it comes to effect on my skin, I like the Vitalizing Green Tea Pack more. I guess it depends on what your skin needs at the moment.

Grape contains resveratrol which is a natural antioxidant that can help reduce heart diseases, the risk of cancer and even brain diseases like Alzheimer’s. Besides these benefits, resveratrol seems to influence genes controlling the aging process. It activates enzymes that slow aging.

On the other hand, yogurt is well known for its many health benefits from its nutritional value as a source of calcium and protein, to its incredible potential for improving sluggish and failing digestive systems, and even as a preventative against yeast infections. Externally, lactic acid and enzymes in yogurt help to hydrate and sooth the skin, leaving it soft and smooth. The cleansing properties which make it beneficial to digestion purify the skin as well, both when applied directly to the skin and when ingested. Yogurt makes a moisturizing and exfoliating mask, great for softening the face and neck and minimizing discoloration.

Green tea contains a cocktail of potent antioxidants called catechins, which help fight damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron – they are inherently unstable, and always trying to steal an electron from the other molecules around them. Free radicals can form in your skin for a variety of reasons, including exposure to toxins. However, the most common cause of free radicals in skin cells is UV radiation from sunlight, which causes up to 90% of all signs of premature aging. In several scientific studies, green tea extract was shown to neutralize the damage done by exposure to UV rays. Green tea’s antioxidant effects may also help prevent skin cancer. It was also found to be able to rejuvenate old skin cells that were at the end of their life cycle.

Green tea also has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. If your skin is very sensitive and often red, products containing green tea extract may help soothe it. People with skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, and dandruff, which are caused by inflammation, may benefit the most from the anti-inflammatory action of the chemicals in green tea. Green tea catechins are anti-bacterial and can decrease hormone activity. This means green tea is an effective way to control acne, without the unpleasant side effects of benzoyl peroxide-based creams.

Having said their benefits, it’s up to you which type of pack to use. They cost cheap anyways so it won’t hurt your pockets to try them both. As for myself, I’m alternating them and use the packs twice a week only.

By the way, I found this very interesting DIY Green Tea Exfoliating Scrub over at YouTube πŸ™‚ Worth a try!
